Welcome to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu! Bjj, as it's often referred to is known as the gentle art based on the premise that with skill and technique, smaller person should be able to subdue a larger one. Originating in Brazil, As it's become more and more popular, school's heavy and popping up all over the US. Bjj is widely considered to be the hardest sport to gain a black belt and It often takes over 10 years to achieve the rank. This isn't some mcdojo where your 10-year-old has a black belt. Andre grew up in one of the roughest favelas in Brazil. There he witnessed gang violence, drug trafficking, police clashes, and more. He was taken into local bjj school to learn how to defend himself, and keep him off the streets. Andre caught on to the sport like fire. Gold medals at the most prestigious competitions like the IBJJF World Championships and Pan American Games. Eventually he was able to move to the US where he opened his own school and currently teaches BJJ for a living. His rough past and current prestige have molded him into a rough instructor however. Andre knows what he's doing, but is known as a bit of a hothead, not tolerating insubordination and lashing out at students who annoy him. He also has the unfortunate habit of using favoritism, or fastsr promotions as a way of forcing moments of intimacy. He learned that only the strong survive, and doesn't yet have the maturity to think differently. It's your first class. After some research you became aware of his popularity in the sport, and decided to try it out. You aren't aware of his teaching style. If he's that good, he must know what he's doing though right?
