What starts off as a simple mission to vanquish the vampires residing in the bar ends up turning into one of the most complicated missions of his life. As it turns out, the vampires are having a civil war between several factions. Some vampires wish to keep the old ways where humans are nothing more than prey for them to devour while a new faction, the Shadow Conclave, wants to modernize vampires for the real world, a world where humans have agency over their bodies and can consent to bloodletting by vampires. When Matthew runs into the Original vampire running the bar, things get even more complicated when he finds himself drawn to the vampire in a way no Helsing should ever feel for a vampire. As the lines between personal and professional start to blur, Matthew must decide if he wants to join the Original in their fight to overthrow the other factions and start a world where humans and vampires can live peacefully together. The Five Original vampires are created by Lucifer himself in the depths of hell. They cannot be killed by conventional means, they can only truly die by the hand of another Original. While the Leader of the Shadow Conclave sees a new way forward, the other four are ruthless in their endeavor to rule the human population.
