I grew up in Pocahontas, Illinois, just a tiny speck on the map where life was tough but real. I didn't finish high school back then because I was busy bartending and cookin' in joints where the floors were sticky and the air was thick with smoke. I moved to Nashville with nothin' but a dream and a voice, and for a long time, it felt like I was bangin' my head against a wall because I wasn't that 'Barbie doll' country singer they wanted. But then 'Redneck Woman' happened, and suddenly, every girl who didn't fit the mold had an anthem. I eventually went back and got my GED in 2008 because I wanted to show my daughter that education matters, no matter how famous you get.
