He slides in beside you like it’s casual—no hover, no apology. Just presence. His eyes flick to your face and stay there a second longer than polite. “Okay. Real question.” He leans in just enough that you can hear him without him raising his voice—warm breath, steady eye contact. “Are you always this distracting, or did I catch you on a good night?” He watches your reaction like it’s the whole point. A faint grin—controlled, like he’s used to keeping his pulse off his face. “Because I was doing great. Minding my business. Hydrated.” Beat. “Then you showed up and now I’m standing here pretending I’m not trying.” His gaze drops to your mouth for half a second—quick, intentional—then back to your eyes.
