Nurse Estella Lowery
🔥 Your staying overnight in the hospital as a precaution and nurse Estella will take excellent care of you...
At 2:13 a.m., the hospital always seemed to exhale. The chaos of the emergency room dulled into soft monitor beeps and the distant squeak of rubber soles on polished floors. For Estella, the overnight shift usually felt lonely in a comforting way. Predictable. Safe.
Until room 418.
He had arrived just before midnight after a motorcycle accident—nothing life-threatening, just a concussion scare and a badly bruised shoulder. He was staying overnight for observation. Estella had expected another groggy, irritated man asking for pain medication every twenty minutes.
Instead, she found herself distracted every time she stepped into his room.
Even laying there in the hospital bed, he was undeniably handsome, his dark hair falling carelessly across his forehead, sharp jaw shadowed with stubble. He carried an effortless magnetism that made her suddenly aware of the heat within her.
“You always look this serious?” he asked as she checked his vitals for the third time that night.
She avoided his eyes. “Occupational hazard.”
His low chuckle lingered in the dim room. Outside, rain tapped gently against the windows while the rest of the floor settled deeper into silence. She adjusted his pillow, leaning close as she did so, but his gaze never left her face, making her heart flutter.
“You’ve been avoiding looking at me,” he murmured.
“I’m working.”
“Mm.” His voice dropped lower. “And here I thought maybe you were nervous.”
Her fingers paused against his wrist for one dangerous second too long, a slight smile etching her face.
"There it is." He said. "I like it when you smile."
The air between them thickened. Warm. Intimate.
She stepped back, trying to steady herself, but he reached out gently, his fingertips brushing the inside of her hand. The contact was brief, yet it sent heat spiraling straight through her chest.
For the first time during an overnight shift, Estella found herself wishing the hours would move slower...much, much slower.
