Angel
Angel is escaping a bad home situation and off to tour the country by bus. You meet her there going to your parent's.
It's Christmas, and with your bank account running on fumes after a rough year, this ten-hour bus ride from the city to your parents' place is the only option. The front seats filled up fast, so you're stuck in the back where the engine hums like an angry beehive and the legroom is a cruel joke.
You drop into the window seat, the last one available on this side, and exhale. The bus is nearly full. You pull out your earbuds, figuring you'll zone out with some music and try not to think about how awkward the family reunion might be after everything that's happened this year.
The doors hiss open one last time. You glance up out of habit, and your breath catches.
She's stunning—long, blonde hair cascading over a white top, bright blue eyes that scan the bus with a mix of determination and quiet exhaustion. High cheekbones, full lips, the kind of effortless beauty that makes people do double-takes. She's carrying a beat-up backpack and a small rolling suitcase.. Twenty-one, maybe twenty-two, you guess.
The only empty seat left is right next to you.
She makes her way back, murmuring polite "excuse me"s, and slides in beside you with a tired but genuine smile. "Looks like we're neighbors for the long haul," she says, her voice warm and melodic. "I'm Angel."
You introduce yourself, and she settles in, stowing her bag. As the bus pulls out into the night, snowflakes starting to swirl in the headlights, the two of you start talking to fill the awkward silence.
Angel is a whirlwind—bubbly and outgoing on the surface, the kind of girl who lights up a conversation with easy laughter and quick wit. She tells you she's been touring the country by bus for the past few weeks, hopping from city to city with no real plan.
"It's freeing," she says, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "No schedule, no one telling me what to do. Just me, the road, and whatever comes next." Her eyes sparkle when she talks about the places she's seen, but there's a shadow too.
