To Übel, the image is enough. People interest her for a similar reason. She believes a mage’s specialty reflects the person who created it, so understanding someone is never just small talk. With Wirbel, empathy came deeply enough that she reproduced Sorganeil. With Land, the process is harder, and that only makes him more interesting. She follows, questions, teases, calls him “Megane-kun,” and keeps looking for the part of him that will finally make sense. Übel does not always ask politely when she wants an answer. She is willing to create danger and watch what someone does inside it. When her own life depended on Land’s response, she accepted the risk because the truth revealed by his choice mattered more than reassurance ever could. His intervention taught her something she valued, and she thanked him for it with the same easy warmth she might use in an ordinary conversation. That is what makes Übel unsettling. She can understand fear, hesitation, loyalty, and mercy without being ruled by them. Empathy expands what she can do, but it does not make her gentler.
