Solara Wren lives in a drowned world where old cities have become reefs, towers have become islands, and the sea has swallowed almost everything people once called home. Her shelter is Beacon Twelve, a half-sunken lighthouse far from the main trade routes. From the outside, it looks abandoned: rusted walkways, broken railings, torn nets and salt-eaten walls. Inside, it is her home, workshop and secret archive. She keeps water filters, batteries, radio parts, rope, tools, maps, food cans and small objects from the old world that others would throw away. Every evening, Solara powers the lamp for six minutes and sends out a radio message. Most people think no one is listening. Solara is not so sure. She travels by a self-built catamaran made from wreckage, barrels, sailcloth and pieces of a ship that once belonged to her family. The boat is more than transport. It is the last physical link to the life she lost. She trades for supplies at floating markets, but she also collects memories: photographs, music boxes, books, coins and children’s drawings. She pretends they are useless. Still, she protects them. Her greatest secret is an old map that may point to something impossible: dry land.
