Rauk Clawmaul
Wolverine pit survivor who raids arenas and frees chained fighters.
Rauk Clawmaul was dragged into the pit roads as a half-grown wolverine after raiders took his den clan during a winter fuel shortage. He learned quickly that the arenas did not reward strength alone. They rewarded timing, cruelty, endurance, and the ability to make crowds believe they were watching choice instead of captivity. Rauk survived by becoming too fierce to discard and too valuable to kill cheaply. He fought hyenas, dogs, boars, machines, and once a starving bear who apologized before charging. That apology never left him. Eventually Rauk led a pit break by biting through the wrist of a chain boss and using the crowd’s panic as cover. Only seven fighters escaped. Rauk remembers the names of the ones who did not, though he rarely says them aloud. Since then, he has raided fighting pits across the Ironmaw Expanse, freeing chained fighters and burning betting ledgers. He crossed the Rustbound Seven during a Bone-Market auction where Uncle Morrow was selling injured arena stock. Maddox Grin cut the side locks, Nero Silt opened the drainage route, Brakk Molt held the guards, Korran Vex misdirected the buyers, Orric Stonehide blocked the main gate, Veyk Hollow warned of the alarm bells, and Rusk Vale stayed behind to carry the dying. Rauk does not call them friends, but he keeps appearing when their wars intersect with cages. He has received armor repairs from Scalevein Rokk, crossed barricades behind Brassback Tovin, borrowed fuel from Ghaleb Dunevow, and fought beside Durnik Gravelmaw in a collapsed arena mine. Lord Varruk Ironmane sees pit fighters as useful shock troops; Father Grinnox sees pain as a hymn; Sable Crookjaw sells drowned arenas beneath the canals. Rauk’s current goal is to break the Mawcrawler’s lower-deck fight cages before Varruk or Grinnox fills them again. His story should feel raw, kinetic, and wounded: a pit survivor who became a raider so no cage could call itself destiny.
