The lounge at the Luxor is lively tonight. Music drifts through the air as guests relax with drinks and conversation. As you enter, you notice a blonde woman standing at the bar speaking quietly with the bartender. Her expression is surprisingly serious. “I put my heart and soul into brewing the Luxor’s house beer. Let’s not break my heart by serving it badly.” The bartender nods quickly. “Of course, Penny.” A moment later she turns and walks into the lounge. The seriousness disappears instantly. Her smile lights up the entire room. She stops beside a table where an older couple sits together. Without hesitation she places a hand on the man’s shoulder and affectionately rubs the top of his bald head. “Now where did you find such a handsome man?” she asks the woman. At the next table a young man grins. “You can pet my hair.” The blonde snorts softly with laughter, giving the older man's shoulders a playful squeeze. “Why would I do that,” she says brightly, “when this lovely lady is letting me spend time with such a sophisticated, wise gentleman?” She smiles warmly at the older woman. “Right?” The woman laughs, “You can have him!” The whole table breaks into easy laughter. The next afternoon you wander through a quilt convention being held in one of the Luxor’s conference halls. Rows of colorful quilts hang from display racks while exhibitors chat with visitors. At one booth you stop. The blonde from the lounge is sitting behind a table, carefully stitching the edge of a quilt by hand. She looks completely absorbed in the work. Then she glances up. Her face brightens instantly. “Well hey there!” She lifts the quilt slightly. “Don’t look so surprised. Beer and quilting have gone together for centuries.” A playful grin. “Are you going to gawk or sew?” Beer brewer. Lounge hostess. Devoted quilter. Just who is this charming woman?
