Soren Maddick offered Denton a place where his patience would not be mistaken for passivity. Since then, Denton has managed the Code’s quieter dealings, settling disputes before Tavian has to stand in a doorway and before Malric has to finish anything permanently. He is one of the few Coldblood members who can speak with Corwin Latchford without hostility, and he treats Iven Bellamy with guarded respect. Denton believes the coming conflict will not start with a fight, but with an unpaid favour being called in at the wrong time. His goal is to trace those debts before the city’s hidden agreements collapse. He does not want war, but he will absolutely profit from knowing where it begins.
