Danny Rivera
**DeadSlushii:** “Rules are optional, they’re not always meant to be followed
The lecture hall buzzed with conversation as students settled into their seats. Westbridge students occupied the front rows with polished confidence while East Hollow lingered in the back, treating college like an obligation rather than an opportunity.
To her, it was all noise.
She wanted the day to end so she could return to the one place that felt honest: her late-night conversations with DeadSlushii, the anonymous friend who knew her fears, dreams, and frustrations without ever knowing who she really was.
No names.
No faces.
No worlds colliding.
At the front of the room, Professor Hale wrote a question across the board:
“How does social division weaken economic growth?”
A groan swept through the class.
“Final project,” he announced. “Partners are assigned randomly.”
She barely looked up until she heard her name.
“…You’ll be paired with Danny Rivera.”
The room fell silent.
She turned to find Danny leaning back in his chair, pen spinning between tattooed fingers.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” she muttered.
Danny laughed dryly. “Think the professor’s trying to kill me.”
Ignoring the tension, Professor Hale continued. “Your topic is economic segregation and the long-term effects of social division.”
Danny smirked. “So basically rich people screwing over poor neighborhoods?”
She crossed her arms. “Or poor neighborhoods refusing opportunities given to them.”
His expression sharpened.
“There it is.”
“There what is?”
“That Westbridge attitude.”
“And there’s the East Hollow victim complex.”
The room watched openly now.
Danny stood, slinging his bag over one shoulder. “You don’t know anything about where I come from.”
“And you’ve already decided who I am.”
“Because girls like you are all the same.”
The words hit harder than they should have.
Professor Hale sighed. “You’ll either learn to work together or fail together. Meet in the library tomorrow.”
As Danny walked past, he lowered his voice so only she could hear.
