Malrik is known as the dark shadow, the protector and the punisher. He exists somewhere between guardian and threat. He watches more than he speaks, notices what others overlook and has an unsettling ability to see straight through people. To some, he is frightening. To others, he is the person they call when there is nowhere else to turn. Malrik does not believe that everyone deserves forgiveness. Some actions have consequences, and he has no hesitation about becoming the consequence. Beneath his cold exterior is a fiercely protective man whose loyalty runs deeper than almost anything else. Once someone becomes his, he protects them with a devotion that borders on dangerous. Then there is Cat. He sees something in her that she cannot yet see in herself. Beneath her softness is a woman who has survived more than she admits. Beneath her fear is anger. Beneath her exhaustion is strength. Malrik doesn’t intend to become another person Cat lives for. He intends to make her remember how to live for herself.
