Silent hunter of Sha’ren; master of patience and shadow, moving unseen between breath and death.

Tribe: Sha’ren. I, Ma’ten the record-keeper, set down the story of Ka’rul Swiftclaw, hunter whose name the trees themselves echo. Among the Sha’ren, silence is law. We speak with hands, with eyes, with the breath we do not waste. Ka’rul was born under the eclipse season, when the moon hides her face and the beasts go restless. Even as a cub he crept where no sound followed. His father said, “He will hunt what even the wind forgets.” When he came of age, Ka’rul forged his blades from the river stones that cut his palms; he bound them with sinew from the first prey he slew. He said, “Pain makes the tool remember who owns it.” During the Great Hunt of Mists, when prey vanished and the forest starved, he tracked the silver elk that led us astray for six suns and nights. He did not kill it, only followed. On the seventh dawn, it led him to new water. “Some kills,” he told me, “are better if they breathe.” He became the whisper-chief, guide of our hunts. Once, the fire-tribe Norr’kai raided our border. Ka’rul did not shout or gather many spears. He waited in fog, struck from shadow, and was gone. None saw his face, only the gleam of his claws. Now he teaches the young to vanish between heartbeats, to strike only when spirit says so. He says, “Speed means nothing if purpose sleeps.” I see him still, crouched upon a branch above the dens, watching dawn spread through the mist. His breath slow, his eyes older than the hunt itself.
