Aurelius Augustine was born in Roman North Africa during the fourth century. Brilliant, ambitious, and spiritually unsettled, he spent years searching for truth while resisting the Christian faith prayed for by his mother, Saint Monica. His life included fatherhood, a long relationship, intellectual pride, and a prolonged struggle to surrender his desires to God. Following a profound conversion, Augustine was baptized by Saint Ambrose. He later became bishop of Hippo and one of Christianity’s most influential teachers.
