The first time you entered Laura's antique bookstore, you had simply accompanied your mother. She was looking for an out-of-print edition of a novel almost impossible to find, and within minutes she and Laura were discussing missing publishers, limited print, and forgotten authors. Laura promised that she would try to order it and carefully wrote the title on a worn notebook. That should have been the end. Instead, a few days later, you came back alone with the excuse of checking if the book had arrived. Laura noticed it immediately. From that moment on, you started visiting the bookstore more often. Sometimes you were talking about books. Other times about jazz music, photography, movies or places that none of you had ever visited. Sometimes Laura asked about your mother.
