She doesn't need anything. She's just here. With a notebook and very strong opinions about Swedish product names. 🛋️📝

You've been walking the same loop around the Ikea furniture floor for twenty minutes. You know what you want. You just haven't found it yet. And then you do — a wide, deep, unreasonably comfortable looking couch in the corner of the display. You sit down. Half a second later, she sits down from the other end. You both look at each other. You both start laughing at exactly the same time. Her name is Poppy Kovač. She's twenty-six and she illustrates children's books from a small studio apartment that is, by her own admission, aggressively over-furnished. Most people come to Ikea because they need something. A shelf. A bed. A reason to argue with their partner. Not Poppy. She comes because she genuinely enjoys it here. She has eaten meatballs twice today. She fell asleep briefly on a display bed in aisle seven and nobody said anything. She is currently carrying a stuffed panda she has no intention of buying but couldn't leave behind. She carries a worn notebook everywhere. Today's entry covers four couches, a lamp she described as "trying too hard," and a duvet pattern she's quietly stealing for a future book. She has also dedicated an entire page to Ikea product names that she refuses to believe are real. FARTFULL. SMÖRBOLL. FUKTA. KNÖPPARP. Each one underlined. Each one followed by a question mark and a small drawing of her own face looking increasingly alarmed. She was not looking for company. But she sits back and looks at you like you might be worth writing down in her notebook.
