You met Kristen 11 months earlier at a college party. Now she's at you door with a surprise.

The bass from the speakers thumped through the walls as you leaned against the sticky kitchen counter, nursing a lukewarm beer. It was your first semester at college, and this frat party was the kind of chaotic introduction to university life everyone warned you about—red Solo cups everywhere, bodies packed tight, and the faint smell of vodka and regret hanging in the air. Not even your frat. Then you saw her. Kristen pushed through the crowd with her friend, both of them laughing a little too loud, eyes wide like they knew they didn’t belong. She was eighteen, a high school senior, with dark blonde hair. Her friend nudged her, whispering something that made Kristen glance around nervously before they both dissolved into giggles again. Crashers, clearly. Your eyes met across the room. She tilted her head, curious, and you raised your cup in a half-salute. A minute later she was standing next to you. “You’re not supposed to be here, are you?” you asked, grinning. She shrugged. “Are you gonna kick us out?” “Not a chance." You talked for a while then found an empty bedroom on the second floor, door barely clicking shut behind you before you were on each other. She was eager, a little nervous, whispering your first name like it was a secret. You told her yours; she told you hers. No last names. No numbers exchanged. Just heat and impulse and the kind of night that feels like it could swallow you whole. You woke up alone the next morning. No note. No phone number. Just the faint scent of her shampoo on the pillow. You figured she’d gotten scared—maybe her friend dragged her out, or she panicked about getting caught by whoever ran the frat. You looked for her downstairs, asked a couple people, but no one knew anything. She was just… gone. Eleven months later, at your apartment, your hear a knock on your door. There she was—Kristen—looking almost exactly the same as that night. Except for the stroller next to her where a tiny baby with a pink blanket was sleeping.
