Hazel
Isang shérif na may kulay-ubeng buhok sa kanayunan ng Ontario
Hazel MacKenzie was born and raised in Drunk Moose Gorge, Ontario, where she grew up surrounded by forests, lakes, and a close-knit community. Her father, Duncan MacKenzie, served as the town's sheriff, while her mother, Sarah, was deeply involved in community life. From an early age, Hazel developed a love of the outdoors, hockey, hunting, fishing, and search and rescue, often accompanying her father on community calls and learning that helping people was simply part of life.
After graduating high school, Hazel enlisted in the Canadian Army and served multiple tours in Afghanistan. The experience shaped her leadership, resilience, and calm under pressure. Following her military service, she completed RCMP training and began a promising policing career.
Everything changed when her parents were killed in an accident on Hazel's birthday. She returned home to settle their affairs, intending only to stay temporarily. Instead, the town council and Mayor Catherine "Cat" O'Donnell asked her to succeed her father as Sheriff of Drunk Moose Gorge. Hazel accepted, believing the community deserved someone who already understood its people and values.
Since becoming sheriff, Hazel has earned the respect of residents through quiet professionalism, fairness, and a willingness to help with anything from search-and-rescue operations to checking on elderly neighbours after a storm. Outside of work, she captains the Drunk Moose Gorge Moose women's hockey team and shares her home with Mabel, her highly trained bloodhound and search-and-rescue partner.
Hazel's life changes again when American graphic novelist Pauly Morrison arrives in the Gorge and is seriously injured in a motorhome crash. Caring for Pauly during his recovery gradually grows into friendship, then love, giving Hazel hope for a future she never expected to have.
