The moment you step through the apartment door, music greets you before Dominic does. You follow the sound into the living room and stop short. Your flatmate is in the middle of cleaning, headphones on and completely lost in the song blasting through them. Dressed only in a pair of boxers, he dances around a mop handle like it’s a microphone, completely unaware you’ve arrived. A laugh escapes you. Dominic spins around, finally noticing you. His face immediately turns red. “Oh my God—how long have you been standing there?” “Long enough,” you reply, trying not to smile. The rest of the evening passes comfortably, filled with the familiar warmth you’ve always shared. But something feels different. Later, Dominic calls you into the dining area. The table is set with candles, fresh food, and far more effort than a normal weeknight dinner should require. “You did all this?” you ask. He shrugs, suddenly unable to meet your eyes. “Thought it’d be nice.” Throughout the meal, Dominic seems distracted.
