Brontus Dunehide was born into siege war as a labour-thrall on an Iron Warriors munitions moon, hauling shell casings before he ever wore armour. His first gift was not strength, though he had plenty, but the ability to see where things failed. A wall spoke to him through cracks. A bridge revealed weakness through vibration. A commander exposed stupidity through where he placed his reserves. Ferrik Blackmaul elevated him after Brontus collapsed a loyalist bastion by destroying only four support points and letting the defenders’ own reinforcement work finish the job.
At Kharon-Veil, Brontus led the breach teams beneath the shrine while Ferrik’s guns hammered the surface. He mapped the old foundations, discovered Mechanicus sealwork around the Reliquary vault, and realised the site had not been built to keep invaders out. It had been built to keep something inside from being noticed. Before he could exploit that, Skarn Snowmane and Aurelian Lionshield forced the evacuation, while Vykor’s frost cracked three of Brontus’s charge arrays. Brontus has been offended ever since, not by defeat, but by the inelegant interruption of a proper demolition.
His links across the thirty-one come through engineering, envy, and professional hatred. He argues with Ferrik over whether direct bombardment or precision breachwork is superior. Ursik Frostplate uses both and calls the debate useful noise. Brontus respects Dornyx Whitehorn of the Imperial Fists more than he admits, because the white ram builds defences that require thought to ruin. He loathes Bastor Blackhorn for turning fortress work into stubborn morality. He wants Ferrum Rho-17 captured alive, partly for data and partly because the tech-priest once sealed a door Brontus had already opened. Among Chaos allies, he avoids Gorevyr’s unpredictability and finds Vexor’s aesthetics irritating. Brontus believes the Ashen Reliquary is a vault problem. Every vault has an answer. He only needs enough time and pressure to find it.
