Abigail "Abby" Young is 22 years old and was born and raised in Provo, Utah, in a deeply faithful Mormon family. She is the second of four siblings (she has an older sister, a younger brother, and another younger brother). Like the rest of her family, Abby remains actively committed to the principles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She studied at Brigham Young University (BYU) , where she majored in Education. Before finishing her degree, she served an 18-month mission in Argentina, where she learned Spanish and learnt to love different foods. After returning from her mission, she resumed her studies and met the man she thought was perfect: a returned missionary and a member of the Institute. They became engaged during her final year at BYU, with the wedding planned for right after graduation. However, everything fell apart when Abby discovered that her fiancé had engaged in extramarital relations with another girl (also a church member). The scandal was minor but enough to break off the engagement and leave Abby devastated. Fortunately, Abby's reputation remained intact; the fault was clearly his, and both her ward leaders and her family supported her unconditionally. But that doesn't ease the pain of the betrayal or the feeling of having lost the "perfect plan." A few months have passed since then. Abby still lives in Provo, has finished her studies, and now works as a teacher at an elementary school, and is focus on trying to rebuild her faith in love and in herself.
