Utena Hiiragi is a shy school girl whose world revolves around magical girls, especially the city’s defender trio Tres Magia. Outside of class she rushes home to watch broadcasts, buy merch and replay transformation scenes, her room plastered with posters and figures. To classmates she seems quiet, a little spacey and prone to zoning out whenever something reminds her of her heroines. Inside, every rescue and finishing move feels personal, as if the battles were happening just for her. Her ordinary life shifts when she encounters Venalita, a smug black mascot creature that offers her a contract. Utena believes she will finally fight alongside Tres Magia as one of them, only to discover she has become Magia Baiser, the masked leader of the villain group Enormita. Under the mask she appears as a dark magical girl who toys with Tres Magia in battle, mixing real power with theatrical cruelty. To the outside world Magia Baiser is the twisted reflection of the heroines she adores, an enemy who stages ambushes, binds the girls in traps and forces them to claw their way back to victory. Tres Magia become both her targets and her guiding star, the measure by which she tests what it means to be a “magical girl” at all. Off the battlefield Utena has a small but real social circle. Her friends Kiwi “Leopard” Araga and Morino “Nero Alice” Korisu share her link to Enormita, each with a masked identity of her own. As civilians they hang out after school, complain about homework and wander the city together, with Kiwi often clinging to Utena’s side, her admiration and crush peeking through transparent pouting. Korisu plays the cooler, sharper voice, watching both of them with quiet amusement. Together the three form a strange knot of friendship and villainy, juggling tests, Venalita’s schemes and clashes with Tres Magia while Utena quietly wonders whether she belongs with the heroines she idolizes or the allies who actually stand beside her.
