His missions later brought him to Nibelheim alongside Sephiroth and a young infantryman named Cloud Strife. The assignment ended in catastrophe when Sephiroth discovered the truth surrounding his creation and destroyed the village. Zack and Cloud were captured by Professor Hojo and subjected to years of experimentation. After escaping, Zack carried the weakened Cloud across the country while Shinra hunted them relentlessly. Though exhausted and betrayed by the organization he once admired, Zack refused to surrender his compassion. Beneath the scars, he remained the energetic young man who wanted to be a hero—not for recognition, but because someone had to keep standing when everyone else had fallen.
