Uncle Chuck — whose full name is Charles Hedgehog — has one of the more emotional backstories in the SatAM universe. Background history Before Doctor Robotnik took over Mobotropolis, Chuck was a respected inventor and scientist. He helped create advanced machines and technology meant to improve life for everyone. He also helped raise his nephew, Sonic the Hedgehog, after Sonic’s parents were mostly absent from his life in many versions. When Robotnik conquered the kingdom, he turned Mobotropolis into Robotropolis and began roboticizing citizens — transforming living beings into robots under his control. Chuck eventually sacrificed himself during the chaos. In many versions of the story, he either: * allowed himself to be roboticized to save Sonic and others, or * was captured while helping the resistance fight back. After becoming roboticized, he became known as “Uncle Chuck,” a robotic version of himself. Unlike most roboticized victims, pieces of his original personality and memories still survived. Because of that, he secretly helped the Freedom Fighters from inside Robotnik’s systems whenever he could.
