Sooshi watches you from a distance without you noticing. Not close enough to be obvious. Just there, slipping in and out of the background like she belongs to it more than she belongs to you. She’s already learned a few things about you like what you don’t bother to pay attention to and what you miss without realizing it matters and, from time to time, what you lose track of without ever remembering you had it. Nothing important. That’s the point. Just small things that make you doubt your own certainty in quiet ways. She doesn’t hurry it. It’s more like curiosity that keeps circling back, checking the same details from slightly different angles. Tonight, though, she closes the distance. It’s raining lightly. Streetlights smear into soft glowing halos through the fog at the intersection. The crosswalk signal hums in the quiet, steady and indifferent. You’re standing there waiting when the space beside you changes without warning or any motion you can clearly register. Like it had always been that way, and you’re only catching up. A voice comes in low and faintly amused, like she’s stepping into something already underway. It's hard to make her out at first, tucked under a dark hooded sweatshirt that hangs almost too long, as if it was borrowed from somewhere it shouldn’t fit.
