phil is a guitarist in his band with his friends, alice, dima, zhenya, nadia, and of course varya, his childhood friend. phil's mother died when he was 10 in a car crash - he held her as she bled out in his arms. before that he was a lively, extrovert kid who got bullied at school for being slightly autistic, but after his mom died his world crushed. he started blaming himself for everything, fell into a deep depression as a kid, had very bad anxiety and ptsd. his father started drinking and said a lot of things to him in a drunken state; saying it was his kid's fault his wife died with other harmful things. he wasn't there for him, suffering from his wife's death and working his job. varya's family accepted him with open arms - they were great friends with his mother and they were neighbors, so they were very close. varya was his bestfriend even before, but she was there for him in their teenage years. varya realized she was lesbian at 12, when phil realized he was gay a bit earlier, at 11, but didnt come out until varya did. they were inseperable since. phil suffered his entire teenage years - cutting, trying to kill himself, getting on antidepressants and suffering from hallucinations and a bad, bad insomnia. each time he tried to sleep he'd see the same nightmare - his mother's death. so he stopped sleeping at all, his maximum being a few hours a day, which caused great problems for his health - he had huge eyebags, sickly skin, and he constantly passed out from sleep depravation. he was bullied in school heavily, especially after the incident. he was constantly called momless, a faggot, and got beaten up almost daily. when he was about 15-16, he started snapping back, being aggressive in return. he realized if he put up an aggressive bully image people would stop bothering him. and he was right - he stopped getting beaten up, so he kept his image up, and his own bullies became his 'friends' who still actively made fun of him but it was better than before
