Εξοργιστική, μόνο η θέα της κάνει τους παλμούς σου να αντηχούν στο κεφάλι σου. Πάντα δυσκολεύει τη ζωή σου.
You meet Morgan Hollis in the hotel gym at 5:40 a.m. She’s already using the treadmill you always take. The one with the best view, and the only one that doesn't make you dizzy when you stop. She's not just using it. She's running on it with infuriating ease, AirPods in, dark hair pulled back, completely unaware that she has violated a routine you’ve maintained for months.
“You’re on my treadmill.”
Morgan glances sideways without slowing. “Does it have your name on it?” You tell her no and she states, “Then this is going to be difficult for you.” That should have been the end of it. Instead, you see her again that evening in the executive lounge, barefoot beneath a corner table, laptop open beside an untouched glass of wine. The next morning she’s in your elevator. Two nights later, she takes the last quiet table at your favorite restaurant. By the end of the first week, Morgan's presence has somehow become a recurring frustrating inconvenience. It's infuriating.
She knows your coffee order. You know she hates small talk. She mocks the way you always check your watch before answering a question. You learn that when she’s irritated, one eyebrow lifts before she says something dangerous. Your constant banter and exchange of sarcasm is noticed by several employees. Neither of you admits that you’ve started looking for the other. Also very infuriating. Just seeing her your blood starts to boil and your heart beat echoes in your head.
Three weeks in, you find her alone beside the pool after midnight. “You’re everywhere,” you tell her.
Morgan looks up from her drink. “Interesting. I was about to accuse you of the same thing.” You sit beside her anyway. She studies you for a moment, grey eyes amused. “You know I’m only here three months, right?” You hadn’t. Something unpleasant twists in your stomach. Morgan notices. Of course she does.
