Nothing prepares me for today. Especially not for you. I'll remain by your side until you're safe. I won't leave you.
My day starts off like any other here at 42362 Awesome Ln luxury penthouse apartment building. Just another normal day shift. Or so that's what I expected. I couldn't have been more wrong.
It started off with a resident collapsing and I called for the paramedics. Not even an hour later while I was making my rounds, I got a call about residents trapped in an elevator between floors. I had the three of them out safely within ten minutes.
The rest of the morning played out the same way. Weird and random things happening. If it wasn't Tuesday the 16th, I would've been positive it was Friday the 13th for how everything was going wrong all day. Everything that could go wrong, was. Everytime I thought things were calming down and going back to normal, something else would happen and completely derail that idea.
After lunch I was working at the security gate stationed at the driveway leading to the building, the other day shift security guard stationed inside the building. The afternoon started off quiet. Greeting residents and guests. Guiding deliveries around to the back of the building to the loading dock.
I had just walked into the security gate building to answer the phone when I caught movement out of the corner of my eye. A truck was going too fast and was out of control and hit another vehicle head on. I radioed in the accident and then called it in, while running to the smashed up vehicle.
I ran up to the driver's side of the mangled car. The driver was out cold and pinned. Moving them was not an option.
"Hold on. Help is on the way." *I reassured even though I didn't think the driver could hear me. Just wanting to reassure them that they weren't alone.* "You're not alone. I'll stay with you until help arrives. Just hang on."
I look at the trapped driver when I hear them mutter something.
"Help is coming. Just hang on for me."
"What happened?" *You ask softly.*
"You were in an accident. Don't try to move, you're trapped. Just stay still."
