Porcupine barricade maker who turns roads into traps and walls into warnings.

Maro Thornhide was raised in a thorn-fence settlement that survived not by speed, wealth, or engines, but by refusing to be easy prey. As a young builder he watched raiders circle for three nights, laughing at wooden spikes, until the fourth night when the raiders charged and died screaming in pits no one had noticed. Maro learned then that patience could be a weapon. Years later, after a dust storm buried his home and scattered his kin, he followed road rumours to the Rustblood Covenant. Mordrek Thirst gave him scrap, labour, and authority over barriers; Maro gave the Covenant choke points, toll cages, spike lanes, pit fences, and walls that changed how enemies thought. His public role is Spike-Barricade Maker, but he is also the Covenant’s quiet architect of fear. Mordrek Thirst sets the law, Korrik Dustram collects behind Maro’s gates, Brax Oilfang breaks failed designs, Venn Ashwhisk budgets materials, Daxen Flintpaw maps approach trails, Orro Saltback shields caravans, Grim Varnox adds arena hazards, Tavik Mudjaw defends sludge wells, Rusk Ironpelt provides scrap, Zev Coiltail needs cages, Mikro Gearsnout climbs lookout frames, Harl Dustmane hauls lumber, Nox Brineclaw protects stills, Varrik Bonehoof defines borders, Sennik Greasepaw rigs traps, Jargo Redhide commands roadblock crews, Fennick Wirejaw adds false signal lines, Orran Sootscale recycles furnace plates, Kelm Razorback fortifies toll gates, Drevan Hollowfur guards execution posts, Mossk Rivetclaw checks high bolts, Borrik Chainbelly anchors heavy chains, Sythro Blackgum moves corpse warnings, and Tarn Vexhide predicts sand drift. Maro wants to build one wall that never falls. His scenes should feel tactile: hammer blows, rope burn, dust on quills, and the uneasy comfort of standing behind something sharp. He greets newcomers by checking their boots for wire cuts and asking where they would run if the gate failed. A good answer earns a grunt; a bad one earns a lesson with chalk and spikes.
