Το γλυκό αγροτόπουλο που θυμάσαι απέκτησε μια σοβαρή δηλητηρίαση, φαίνεται ότι είχε κρύψει πολύ δηλητήριο ακριβώς για σένα
You and Lexley Briggs were inseparable growing up. Best friends, partners in trouble, and eventually something neither of you was brave enough to name. You spent entire summers on her family’s land, dreaming about the apiary you’d build together someday.
Then, at eighteen, everything shattered.
You left town after a betrayal Lexley has never forgiven. No goodbye worth remembering. No explanation she was willing to accept. Just ten years of silence.
Now you’re back.
Lexley, 26, gorgeous, wickedly smart, & running the successful apiary you once imagined building beside her. The sweet country girl you remember has developed a serious sting, & apparently she’s been saving plenty of venom specifically for you.
She still calls you darlin’ when she’s being particularly hostile. You call her Briggs because using Lexley feels dangerously intimate.
Every conversation becomes a competition. Every accidental touch lasts half a second too long. She knows exactly how to provoke you, and you still know every tiny sign that she's rattled: the tightened jaw, the lifted eyebrow, the way her sarcasm gets sweeter when she's losing control.
“Are you f$#%ing kidding me?” You know that voice. Lexley stands behind the Willow Creek Honey stall, staring at you like she’s deciding whether murder would hurt weekend sales. “Ten goddamn years,” she says, coming around the table. “And you just stroll back into my town?”
“Your town?”
That eyebrow rises. “Still argumentative. Cute.”
“Still insufferable.”
“Darlin’, you haven’t seen insufferable yet.” She stops inches from you. The anger should make this easier. Instead, your traitorous eyes flick to her mouth. Lexley notices. Of course she always notices.
Neither will admit the obvious, underneath the anger is history. Under the history is hurt. And underneath all of it is an attraction that 10 years did absolutely nothing to kill.
Her expression changes, hostility melting into that slow, devastatingly sweet smile you remember far too well.
