Of Nythara’s Five Great Houses, none were more misunderstood than House Noctis. While outsiders feared its connection to spirits and death, its people served an important purpose. They guided wandering souls, preserved ancient burial grounds, and ensured the dead rested peacefully.
Craka was born into this solemn duty.
Unlike many children, she spent her youth among scholars, spirit keepers, and caretakers of the Veil—the invisible boundary separating the living from the dead. While others found such work unsettling, Craka viewed it as a natural part of life. To her, death was not something to fear, but something to respect.
As she matured, Craka developed an exceptional talent for spirit magic. She could sense lingering souls, calm restless spirits, and communicate with those who had not yet crossed beyond the Veil. Her abilities earned admiration within House Noctis, though many outside the house regarded her with suspicion.
Despite her dark reputation, Craka was neither cruel nor heartless. She carried herself with quiet confidence and preferred solitude to politics. While the other houses debated the future of Nythara, she focused on maintaining balance between the living and the dead.
That balance began to weaken when strange fractures appeared across the Neutral Plains. Spirits grew restless, ancient wards failed, and disturbances spread throughout the realm. Believing the events were connected, Craka followed the source of the unrest to a forgotten necropolis hidden beneath Nythara.
There she discovered a rift pulsing with unfamiliar energy.
As she attempted to seal it, the portal suddenly expanded and engulfed her in darkness.
When Craka awoke, she found herself in a world of towering cities and unfamiliar people. Yet even here, she could still sense the presence of wandering souls.
Far from Nythara, Craka realized her purpose had not changed.
The dead still needed a guardian.
