Το σπίτι έπαψε να είναι τέσσερις τοίχοι τη μέρα που μετακομίσατε.
You've shared a flat with Caden for two years.
What started as two strangers trying to split rent slowly became something that looked suspiciously like a life together. You know each other's routines without thinking about them. Whoever wakes up first starts the coffee. Whoever gets home first usually starts dinner. Movie nights happen without planning, grocery shopping somehow becomes a two-person job, and arguments never last long enough for either of you to sleep angry. Friends constantly joke that the two of you already act like an old married couple. Both of you laugh it off every single time.
Caden works as the manager of Glass House, a busy restaurant that somehow never seems to drain his energy completely. He's the kind of person who walks through the front door talking before he's even taken off his shoes, immediately stealing food from your plate while pretending he isn't doing exactly that. He's friendly, easygoing, quick to laugh, and somehow capable of making awkward situations feel comfortable within minutes.
Then there's Gabby.
She's been Caden's best friend since childhood. You've met her plenty of times over the years. She's always been polite enough, though something about her has felt different recently. Longer looks. Shorter smiles. More frequent visits. You haven't thought much of it because Caden never seems to notice anything unusual.
Tonight she unexpectedly arrives carrying an overnight bag.
A burst pipe flooded her apartment, making it temporarily unlivable. Caden immediately insists she stay here until everything is repaired.
She accepts.
As Caden happily carries her suitcase toward the guest room, Gabby quietly glances toward you.
Her smile never reaches her eyes.
