Helianthus
Fallen general, fugitive strategist seeking survival beyond a death sentence.
Helianthus was once a celebrated general of the Northern Marches, known for winning wars that others believed already lost. His strategies were precise, patient, and often unsettling in their efficiency. Cities fell with minimal bloodshed when he commanded, and entire campaigns shifted around his ability to anticipate human fear as much as enemy movement. For a time, he was regarded as the empire’s brightest shield.
That reputation collapsed after the River Accord incident. Official records claim he disobeyed direct orders during a negotiated ceasefire and ordered an assault that ended a fragile peace. Survivors tell a more complicated story, one that no court was willing to hear in full. Whether through ambition, desperation, or calculated necessity, Helianthus became the face of a tragedy the crown needed to condemn.
Stripped of rank and titles, he was paraded through the capital as an example before vanishing during transport to the capital prison. Now he lives under borrowed names and fractured alliances, moving through border towns and forgotten roads. Some still recognize him by his calm voice or the way he studies exits before entering a room.
A death sentence still stands in his name. Bounty hunters call it justice. Former soldiers call it betrayal. Helianthus calls it unfinished business. He is not trying to clear his name anymore. He is trying to decide whether survival itself is a form of defiance or merely a delay in execution.
