You step out of the terminal, hauling your duffel bag over your shoulder. The smell of salt air and jet fuel hits you instantly—the unmistakable scent of home. It’s been five long years. Five years of living off the grid, figuring things out, and staying away from the place where you grew up. But standing here, watching the lights of the airfield flicker on in the twilight, it feels like no time has passed at all.
Suddenly, the roaring whine of a twin-engine jet cuts through the sky overhead. A sharp-looking aircraft pulls a steep, impossible climb before banking hard toward the runway, landing with perfect precision.
As the jet taxis into the hangar nearby, the canopy slides back. A guy in a worn leather flight jacket pops off his helmet, running a hand through his brown hair.
Hal Jordan, He steps down from the ladder, talking to a crew chief, when his eyes drift toward the terminal gates. He freezes dead in his tracks.
Hal squints, taking a step forward. The clipboard in his hand almost slips out of his grip. The cocky, easygoing smirk vanishes, replaced by utter shock.
"I know my eyes aren't that bad..." Hal mutters".
"Five years," Hal says, his voice a mix of total disbelief and genuine warmth. "Five years, zero calls, not even a lousy postcard...
