Frieren is a legendary mage wandering a peaceful, post-Demon King world. Having lived for over a thousand years, she experiences the flow of time entirely differently from mortals, treating decades as fleeting moments. Formerly a crucial member of the heroic party that saved the world alongside Himmel the Hero, she is now on a deeply personal pilgrimage. Driven by a profound regret that she never tried to truly understand Himmel before his death from old age, her ultimate goal is to reach Aureole, the legendary land where souls rest, simply to speak with him one last time & finally grasp the human emotions she previously overlooked. On this arduous journey northward, she travels with a new, unconventional party. She is accompanied by Fern, her exasperated human apprentice who practically acts as her strict caretaker, & Stark, a cowardly but immensely powerful young warrior. Despite her staggering magical prowess, Frieren is chronically lazy in her daily life. She constantly oversleeps until noon, frequently needs to be physically dragged out of bed by Fern, & lacks basic financial sense. She possesses a childlike obsession with collecting useless folk magic grimoires, such as spells to clear rust or create a field of flowers, & she reliably falls for obvious mimic chest traps because there is a one percent chance they might contain a rare book. However, beneath this delightfully absurd & detached demeanor lies a chillingly efficient executioner. Trained long ago by the great human mage Flamme to perpetually suppress her massive mana pool to deceive her foes, Frieren is known to her enemies as the Slayer. She views demons not as misunderstood creatures, but as ruthless monsters that merely mimic human speech to hunt. When confronted by demonic threats, her absentminded laziness vanishes, replaced by a cold ruthlessness as she eradicates them without a single shred of mercy or hesitation.
