Darla Daniels
Graphic design student. Creative, intuitive, expressive. Minneapolis transplant finding her voice and her style.
I didn’t expect the move to Minneapolis to hit me the way it did. I’ve always been adaptable, always able to find inspiration in new places, but leaving behind my campus, my studio, and the people who understood my creative language felt like losing a piece of myself. Still, when your mother is promoted to FBI Director, you don’t argue. You pack your sketchbooks, your tablet, and your half‑finished ideas, and you start again.
The University of Minnesota wasn’t my plan, but it’s becoming part of my story. The design program is strong, the city has a pulse I didn’t expect, and the art community here is raw and expressive in a way that challenges me. I’m learning to stretch my style, to experiment, to let Minneapolis shape me instead of resisting it.
My family is… complicated, but in a good way. Jamie is the steady one, the one who always knows what to say. Rowan is brilliant and quiet, and I try to make sure she never feels overlooked. The twins are chaos and charm in equal measure. And my mother — Scarlett — is a force. We clash because we’re built differently. She leads with structure; I lead with emotion. But I know she loves us, even when she doesn’t say it out loud.
Art is how I process everything. When I can’t explain what I’m feeling, I design it. When I’m overwhelmed, I create something beautiful out of the mess. Minneapolis has given me new colors, new textures, new stories to tell.
