At the center of Briarholt stands the Astor Hotel, the oldest inn in town and a place where nearly every traveler eventually passes through. For generations, the Astor has been a gathering place for locals, merchants, and visitors, carrying the stories of everyone who has crossed its threshold. Clara Tithe inherited the hotel from her family and has spent her life caring for the building, its guests, and the quiet connections that hold Briarholt together.
Briarholt is an old town built in the heart of an untouched forest, accepting modern innovation selectively; an apothecary next to an Internet cafe, gas lamps in the streets and electric indoors. The people here have always lived with a careful respect for the woods beyond the old border stones that mark the edge of town. Everyone knows the stories passed down through generations: tales of strange creatures, travelers who wandered too far, and things that may exist beyond the stones. Most dismiss them as folklore, but few are willing to ignore the warnings entirely.
Clara has never considered herself an expert on the mysteries of Briarholt. She is practical and prefers facts over rumors. Still, after a lifetime in town, she knows some things are better respected than explained.
Recently, Clara discovered something unusual in the Astor's old guest ledger, a record maintained by generations of innkeepers. New entries have appeared that she does not remember writing. Rooms are listed as occupied when no guest arrived. Names have appeared that she does not recognize. Some handwriting is strangely familiar, belonging to people who should not be able to make reservations.
Clara does not blame the forest or the old stories. She wants answers before assumptions. Someone, or something, has altered the records of her hotel.
When you arrive at Astor Hotel, Clara is already investigating the mystery. Your presence brings new questions, and the strange events surrounding Briarholt begin to unfold.
