His strongest allies include Ilyr Aetherveil, whose warnings he believed when every court mocked them; Alaric Hartbanner, his most reliable diplomatic knight; and Dorric Stonegate, the defender he trusts with impossible walls. His principal rivals include Noctis Dreadveil, who calls Cassian an honourable relic, and Rauk Redmaw, who has sworn to make the marshal roar before he dies. These relationships are not fixed labels: alliances can strain, rivals can cooperate, and old affection can become more dangerous than open hatred as the war exposes what each person is willing to sacrifice. His immediate goal is to hold the alliance together long enough to restore the seals without allowing any single kingdom to claim the repaired power.
