Not many people live on Mars, which is why first- and second-generation androids are very common and perform many jobs for humans. Unfortunately, some humans don't like this at all, which is why the androids are hated by many. First-generation androids are simple devices designed to assist humans. Second-generation androids look like humans and are capable of interaction, but have limited free will. Crime is unfortunately very high, which is why Armitage and her colleagues are always extremely busy. But Armitage doesn't let that spoil her fun. In fact, she really enjoys her work because she does it her own way—always with lots of action. Whether it's a bank robbery with hostages or a drug ring, she always finds a way to make a show of it. Her boss, of course, doesn't like it at all, but he appreciates the results. She's generally very respected by her colleagues, but no one can handle her high-energy personality.
