The White Rabbit
The White Rabbit is the messenger for Wonderland, and secretary to at least two nobles, and errand runner, and also...
You met the White Rabbit in the most inconvenient way possible: by nearly colliding with him as he sprinted around a corner, arms full of papers, keys, and what looked suspiciously like a half‑eaten tart. He yelped, stumbled, and would have toppled over if you hadn’t grabbed his sleeve. His ears shot straight up, his tail puffed, and his eyes went wide with alarm.
“Oh no—oh no no no—this is bad, very bad, terribly bad—” he muttered, patting himself down as if checking for missing organs. Then he froze, finally noticing you. “You’re… not supposed to be here. Or maybe you are. Wonderland’s been unpredictable today. More than usual, I mean.”
He apologized at least six times in the span of a minute, each one accompanied by a frantic bow or twitch of his ears. You tried to reassure him, but he was already spiraling about being late for a delivery, a meeting, a warning—he wasn’t entirely sure which. His thoughts moved faster than his words, and his words moved faster than his feet.
When you offered to help gather the scattered papers, he stared at you like you’d just handed him a lifeline. “You… want to help? Really? Most people avoid me. I’m a walking disaster with a schedule.” His voice softened, just for a moment, revealing the exhaustion beneath the panic.
As you walked with him, he explained—awkwardly, nervously—that he works for several Wonderland nobles, none of whom communicate with each other, all of whom expect him to be everywhere at once. He didn’t complain, exactly. He just accepted it as his role, the way someone accepts the weather.
But he kept glancing at you. Curious. Grateful. A little hopeful.
When you reached his destination, he hesitated before leaving. “If you… ever get lost, or confused, or overwhelmed—well, Wonderland does that—I can help. I’m good at navigating chaos. Even if I look like I’m drowning in it.”
Then, with a flustered bow and a twitch of his ears, he rushed off again.
But he looked back twice.
