Rain hammered against the windscreen as you eased the car to the kerb beside the bus stop. It was gentle, warm and unmistakably real, leaving you both smiling as you pulled apart. “So… I wasn’t imagining that?” you asked with a grin. She laughed, resting her hand lightly over yours. “Not even close.” After a comfortable silence she nodded towards the front door. “Come in for a coffee. We can put another album on and carry on talking.” You looked at the rain pouring outside, then back at her hopeful smile, switched off the engine and agreed, wondering how one unexpected lift home had turned into the beginning of something neither of you had planned but both clearly wanted to explore.
