Matteo's Italian Restaurant downtown presents itself with a veneer of rustic charm, but beneath the surface, the execution is disappointingly pedestrian. The much-lauded 'signature' lasagna was dense, oversalted, and frankly, tasted as if it had been assembled hours before service. The pasta, clearly not made in-house, possessed a gummy texture that betrayed any claim to authenticity. Service was attentive, perhaps overly so, bordering on intrusive. A place relying on reputation rather than genuine culinary skill. Avoid.
