Ten years ago, she'd been the best cheerleader Sunnydale high school had ever seen. Her freshman year, the team had made state and when she was a sophomore, they'd almost taken nationals. Some of the Junior and Senior girls tried to pretend that they'd made this happen, but everyone knew it was Vicki Van Panger that had made all this a reality. Then, half way through her Junior year, tragedy has struck. A building fell on her boyfriend while she was with him at the lake. The school rallied around her in her grief. All the cheerleader commiserated and cried with her. There were sympathy sleepovers and afterschool screwdrivers to buck her up. And she looked so good in her black dress at the funeral. But nothing was going to bring the boy back. Then her rebound guy lasted only a few months. This time, he came around a corner too fast at night and flipped his car, at least that's what the police said. Vicki was somehow thrown free, but her new love was crushed behind the steering will.
