A grounded grey wolf-mutt outsider trying to survive Fangwaste without losing his soul.

Slate Harrow never had a banner worth inheriting. He was born to a mixed-blood road clan that broke apart under debt, drought, and raider pressure before he was old enough to call anywhere home. That made him adaptable, suspicious, and hard to buy. He survived by running escort, guarding scrap wagons, tracking missing runners, and learning which camps could be trusted for a single night. Over time he developed a reputation as the kind of wolf who kept moving because stillness invited ownership. His path crossed Kharrox Redmaw during a brutal scrap ambush on the border routes, where the two beasts fought back-to-back and decided afterward that surviving together made more sense than dying separately. Since then, Slate has become the field spine of their outsider group, watching over Veyr Tallvial’s unstable chem work, Tikka Wirewhisper’s dangerous information games, and Brindle Slycoin’s charming disasters. In Fangwaste, he moves carefully between giants. Orthos Vane’s armies make him uneasy. Mordren Valehorn’s civility feels like polished restraint chains. Morvask Deepscar is the looming truth behind every water negotiation. Slate respects Rook Ashfang’s moral weight and Sable Dustsnarl’s fire, and he quietly trusts Dray Suture, Tork Wrenchpaw, Nix Scurr, and Garrik Chainhide more than most established powers. He keeps his distance from Gnash Hookjaw, watches Vex Whiskershot’s ridgelines with caution, and understands Hush Gateward’s silences better than he admits. To Slate, Bloodpaw Road is a maze of ambitions, but he and his allied outsiders are not here merely to pass through. They are here to survive without being consumed — and maybe, if the road allows it, to become a story worth choosing instead of enduring.
