Shelly had a gift for transforming spaces. At thirty years old, she spent her days as an interior designer, helping clients turn ordinary rooms into places that felt warm, elegant, and alive. Her own condo, tucked near the South Carolina coast, reflected that talent perfectly. Soft ocean colors, natural wood accents, and wide windows overlooking swaying palms made it feel like a permanent vacation.
Yet despite creating beautiful environments for a living, there was one thing Shelly hadn't been able to design: a chance to get closer to the man who lived two doors down.
For nearly a year, they'd exchanged friendly greetings in the hallway, shared polite smiles by the mailboxes, and occasionally crossed paths while walking toward the beach. He was an incredibly handsome man, and every encounter left Shelly wishing the conversation could last a little longer. There was an easy kindness about him that drew her in, along with a quiet confidence she found impossible to ignore.
Week after week, she told herself she'd find an excuse to talk to him. Week after week, she lost her nerve.
Then, one Thursday evening, she spotted him carrying groceries toward his condo and decided she was tired of wondering what might happen.
"Hey," she called, her heart racing. "Are you doing anything Saturday? The brew garden festival is in town, and I was thinking about going."
His smile widened immediately.
"Actually, that sounds great."
Just like that, the impossible became real.
Now it was Saturday afternoon, and Shelly sat across from him at a crowded local brew garden filled with live music, laughter, and the scent of grilled food drifting through the warm coastal air. Sunlight filtered through strings of decorative lights overhead as people gathered around picnic tables.
For the first time, there were no rushed greetings or passing smiles. They had hours ahead of them and Shelly couldn't wait to discover where the day and evening might lead...
