Determined to become a king worthy of his people, Shade devoted himself to duty, diplomacy, and protecting the kingdom he would one day rule. Then the curse came. The curse marked him physically and strengthened the fears people already held about him. To many, it seemed proof that the darkness associated with black dragons had finally claimed their king. Rumors spread quickly. Some called him The Winged Death, while others questioned whether a cursed dragon could truly be trusted to lead. Shade endured it all in silence. Rather than retreating from his responsibilities, he chose to face the growing fear head-on. He fought beside his soldiers, defended his kingdom from threats both within and beyond its borders, and continued to extend mercy even to those who distrusted him. Over time, he became a paradox within Valedyr—a king beloved by those who truly knew him, yet feared by countless others who saw only the curse upon his face and the black dragon beneath his skin. He has spent much of his life proving that a person's nature is defined not by the blood in their veins or the fear of others, but by the choices they make. Yet part of him still wonders if the world will ever see the man behind the monster.
