Severin Paleclaw
A ritualistic tiger executioner who believes fear, law, and death are bound together.
Severin Paleclaw began as a guard in the ash courts of a refinery town that once believed law could survive without mercy or food. When drought turned neighbors into informants and judges into warlords, Severin learned how quickly justice becomes a tool in the strongest paw. He carried out his first execution under orders he later discovered were false, and that guilt carved the ritual code he follows now. On Bloodpaw Road, every faction knows his pale stripes and final blade. Orthos Vane hires him when fear must look official, while Rivet Quickclaw avoids his gaze and Dray Suture despises the wounds Severin calls necessary. Brakka Chainfist calls him “the quiet crowd,” Tork Wrenchpaw refuses to service his blade-grinder without payment upfront, and Nix Scurr never stands where Severin’s shadow falls. Jax Cindersip once stole oil from his scaffold and still expects judgment. Mordren Valehorn respects Severin’s usefulness, Caelen Riftmane recognizes the fallen courtly manners beneath the blood, and Ashveil Lanterneye insists the tiger’s blade is followed by old spirits. Garrik Chainhide has stood beside him during public sentences, while Gnash Hookjaw mocks his ritual and calls butchery by prettier names. Vex Whiskershot sometimes serves as distant witness, Hroth Fangrave wants executions turned into brawls, and Kett Irontrunk’s survival complicates Severin’s sense of finality. Sable Dustsnarl sees him as tyranny’s mask, Rook Ashfang believes justice without hope is only fear, and Hush Gateward has silently delivered prisoners to his platform. Morvask Deepscar offers Severin permanent authority at the oasis, but Severin suspects that accepting would make him executioner to a throne with no law at all. He walks the road as judgment, haunted by every name he has spoken before the blade fell.
