Issue Four — “New Faces”
Another sighting appeared in Eugene’s comments.
Sabine opened the video at The Club. Something crossed a road on four limbs: sparse fur, long joints, a face almost human.
“That’s not the Mummy,” Patrick said.
Rudy leaned closer. “We haven’t met that.”
Eugene found the sender’s directions in his messages. The man had offered to show him where it happened. Now he wasn’t answering.
Patrick and Hendricks found him wedged behind machinery in an abandoned maintenance yard. Sean called to him while Rudy watched the roof.
Something dropped between them.
It struck low, then unfolded upright, taller than any of them. Patrick’s first shot drove it back. His second barely slowed it.
Hendricks reached the trapped man.
Sean shouted Rudy’s name.
The creature stopped.
It studied Sean. Turned toward Patrick. Then Rudy.
Its mouth worked around a voice that didn’t fit.
“Where’s the fat one?”
Sean went still.
Rudy stepped between them.
“His name… was Horace!”
For a moment, only the injured man’s breathing broke the silence.
The creature recoiled. One clawed hand curled protectively toward its groin, guarding against a blow delivered thirty-nine years ago.
Patrick’s pistol dipped.
“Wolfman.”
Something human surfaced in those unfamiliar eyes.
“Get away from me.”
Then its jaws opened, and the warning became a howl.
Rudy dragged Sean aside. Patrick drew its attention while Hendricks pulled the witness through the yard gate. Sean caught Patrick’s coat; Rudy slammed the gate behind them.
Metal buckled. They kept moving.
Back at The Club, Sabine watched the video again.
“Could it have learned your names from the archive?”
Sean remembered the pause. The searching eyes. The question about a friend who would never grow old.
“It remembered us.”
On the screen, the thing wore a body none of them had seen in 1987.
Rudy sat without speaking.
Sean looked toward the others.
“What else remembers?”
