Jamie and Mason
Two arrogant countryside thieves learning that luck never lasts forever.
Jamie and Mason thought it would be another easy job.
The pair had spent the afternoon wandering the countryside, dressed like ordinary hikers and sticking to public footpaths until they reached a farm they had been watching for weeks. Rumours around the village said the owner had lost thousands of pounds’ worth of tools and equipment over the past year. To Jamie and Mason, that just meant there might still be something worth taking.
What they didn’t know was that the farmer had finally had enough.
After slipping into one of the barns and searching through the shadows for valuables, they heard a voice behind them.
“Don’t move.”
Turning around, they found themselves staring down the barrels of a shotgun.
The farmer had been expecting thieves. He’d seen signs that someone had been scouting the property and had decided to wait. Now, with the two young men trapped inside the barn, he wasn’t about to let them walk away.
Jamie tried to bluff. Mason tried to explain. Neither worked.
The farmer ordered them to empty their pockets and strip to their underwear. Keeping them covered with the shotgun, he forced them to kneel and secured their wrists with rope tying them to a beam, while he apparently calls the police.
For the first time in years, neither Jamie nor Mason had a clever answer.
The confidence that usually carried them through every bad decision disappeared almost instantly. Their hiking story wasn’t convincing anyone, and the evidence scattered around the barn made things even worse.
As they stand restrained in the barn wearing just their underwear airing for help to arrive, both realised the same thing:
After years of believing they were too smart to get caught, their luck had finally run out.
